Some styled shoots are quiet and minimal. This one was the opposite! Colour everywhere, a big team, a busy day and a bubbly energy that carried through every frame.

We shot at Villa Fabiani in June, in the Slovenian Karst. The ceremony felt surrounded by nature, and the rest of the day matched it, with pops of colour, live music and cocktails that looked as good as they tasted. On this one I worked as a photographer as well as a videographer, which was an interesting change of pace.

The venue

Villa Fabiani is a 17th-century boutique villa in Štanjel, with 14 rooms, rose gardens and organic vineyards. It was also the birthplace of the architect Maks Fabiani. It has the feel of an Italian villa set in the countryside, with old stone, greenery and plenty of room for a day like this to unfold. It’s a stunning setting for a wedding, and the Karst is well worth the trip.

The flowers and colour

The florals set the tone for the whole day. Buketa Flowers created decor, florals and stationery in a bold, joyful palette, far from the soft neutrals you often see, and the colour pulled everything together. Add the colourful cocktails and it felt like a celebration from the very first frame.

The team

This shoot was planned, styled and coordinated by Seraphine Weddings, who kept a lot of moving parts moving smoothly. With a team this big and this talented, the day had a creative energy that’s hard to fake.

Villa Fabiani sits in the Slovenian Karst, a short drive from the Istrian coast, with vineyards, rose gardens and centuries of history behind it. It’s grand without being stiff, and it photographs and films beautifully.
